How to measure the right ring size at home
The right size is often the difference between a ring you happily wear every day and one that stays in a drawer. The good news: you can measure size reliably at home. Here are proven methods.
Method 1: measure an existing ring (most reliable)
If the person already wears a ring on the right finger:
1. Take a ring that fits her well
2. With a ruler, measure the inner diameter in millimeters (edge to edge inside)
3. Compare with the table below
This is the most accurate method, especially for a surprise.
Method 2: paper strip or string
1. Wrap a narrow paper strip or string around the finger
2. Mark where the ends meet
3. Measure the length in millimeters — that's the inner circumference
4. Compare with the table

EU size is simply the inner circumference in millimeters — which makes the system very intuitive.
Golden rules of measuring
- Measure in the evening: fingers swell slightly during the day; an evening measurement is more realistic
- Warm hand: in the cold, fingers shrink and the measurement will be too small
- Account for the knuckle: if the knuckle is thicker than the finger base, choose a size in between
- Wider bands fit tighter: for a wide band (e.g. >6 mm) choose half a size up
Common mistakes
- Measuring cold fingers (result too small)
- Measuring the wrong finger (left/right hand differ)
- A too-tightly wrapped string (result too small)
What if you miss?
No worries — most rings can be resized up or down by one or two sizes. Some styles (e.g. eternity with diamonds all around the band) are harder to resize, so accurate measurement matters more with them.
For a surprise
- Discreetly borrow a ring she wears on the right finger and measure it using method 1
- Ask her friend/sister
- If you're completely unsure, choose a style that's easy to resize and we'll adjust later
