Step cuts (emerald, asscher) don't sparkle the same way — instead of scintillation they give an elegant, calm luster with long flashes of light. They beautifully emphasize the clarity of the stone.
Which shape looks larger
For the same weight (carats), these look larger: oval, marquise, pear and emerald — because they have a larger surface on top. Round and princess are "deeper" (more mass is below).
Budget tip: if you want a visually larger stone, oval is an excellent choice — it looks bigger than round at the same weight and price.
